Connect with Silicon Valley - Dr. Armand Neukermans

We are pleased to invite our contacts in the technology related industry and academic environment to listen and exchange experiences with guestspeaker Dr. Armand Neukermans - a Flemish serial entrepreneur in Silicon Valley on Thursday January 29 (5 to 7.30 p.m in Leuven).

Armand Neukermans graduated with degrees in both EE and ME from Louvain University in 1962. He joined General Electric in 1964 to do research in advanced magnetic recording. He obtained the PHD in solid state Physics from Stanford University in 1970, and held numerous management and senior executive management positions within the research organisations at Xerox Research Labs, HP Labs and Tencor instruments.
In 1992 he left Tencor to join a startup to develop micromachined sensors and actuators, which was disbanded a year later. He formed his own consulting company and did consulting for various startups and other firms in the field of drug delivery, semiconductor equipment, electron guns, implantable hearing aids and micro machining. In 1996 he formed Xros, to commercialize various ideas in silicon micro-machining. Xros developed the largest optical switch in the world and was sold to Nortel in 2000 for 3.25 B.

He left Nortel in 2002 and since devotes his time to various startups, the development of an implantable hearing aid, an NMR system for plastic landmine detection and archaeology. He is the author of over 40 publications, inventor of over 60 patents in different fields and was named Silicon Valley Inventor of the Year in 2001. He is active on several public and private boards and acts as a technical advisor for venture firms.

Dr. Neukermans wants to give his view and share with the audience on starting and growing a business in Silicon Valley, based on his long time expercience.
